Abstract
연령추정은 법의·치의학적 개인식별에서 가장 기본이 되고 중요한 분야로, 지금까지 수많은 선학들이 신체의 여러 부위를 이용하여 연령을 추정하는 방법에 대해 연구해 왔다. 치아를 이용한 연령추정은 신체의 다른 부위와 비교하여 가장 유의한 방법으로 이중 Gustafson과 Johanson은 사후 치아를 이용하여 연령을 추정하였는데 그 정확성과 체계성을 인정받아 국외는 물론 국내에서도 널리 사용되고 있다. 그러나 이들 두 가지 방법에 대한 정확성의 검증은 외국에서는 많은 연구가 있었지만 아직 국내에서는 그에 대한 연구가 희소한 형편이다.
이에 본 연구는 치주질환에 이환되었거나 교정 치료를 위해 발거된 59개의 전치부, 소구치부, 구치부 치아를 이용하여 1) Gustafson 방법과 Johanson 고유 방법대로 우리나라 사람의 치아에 적용하였을 때 각 방법에 따른 추정연령과 실제 연령과의 차이를 비교하고, 2) 실제연령과 Gustafson 방법 및 Johanson 방법에 의한 추정연령 간 차이를 연령대별, 성별, 악궁별, 그리고 치아부위별로 상관관계를 분석하기 위하여 시행하였다.
치아를 레진 포매하여 절편으로 만들어 Gustafson 방법과 Johanson 방법을 이용하여 각각 치아를 감정하고 연령을 추정하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.
1. Johanson 고유 방법에 의한 추정연령은 실제연령과 유의한 차이를 보였으나, Gustafson 방법과 Johanson 응용 방법은 실제연령과 유의한 상관관계를 보였고 이중 Johonson 응용 방법이 더 높은 상관관계를 보였다.
2. 실제연령과 Gustafson 방법, Johanson 고유 방법, Johanson 응용 방법에 의한 추정연령은 성별 및 치아 부위에 따라 유의한 차이가 없었다.
3. 실제연령과 Gustafson 방법, Johanson 고유 방법, Johanson 응용 방법에 의한 추정연령은 연령대별로 유의한 차이를 보였다.
이상의 결과에서 향후 Gustafson 방법과 Johanson 고유 방법이 국내에서 이용될 수 있으나 보다 정확한 검증을 위하여 보다 많은 치아를 이용한 연구와 Johanson 연령추정 방법에서 기존 Johanson이 제시한 방정식을 그대로 적용하기보다는 폭넓은 연구에 따른 새로운 방정식 적용이 필요하다고 사료된다.
Age estimation is fundamental and important in personal identification with forensic medicine and dentistry. Recently, a lot of studies using various part of the body have been done for age estimation. Age estimation with teeth is the most significant method comparing ones with other part of the body. Gustafson method and Johanson method using postmortem teeth have been authorized in accuracy and systemization and used domestically and internationally. The verification of the accuracy in above methods had been tried many times but it is still rare in Korea.
Fifty-nine teeth(incisors, canine, premolars and molars) which were extracted due to periodontal diseases or orthodontic problem were collected. Present study is to 1) compare the accuracy of estimated age in applying Gustafson method and Johanson method to the teeth in Korea, 2) compare and analyze the correlation with results using Gustafson method and Johanson method by age, gender, maxilla - mandible and anterior - premolar - molar.
Teeth were embedded in resin and sliced and then examined each one using Gustafson method and Johanson method.
The results are as follows:
1. Actual age was a significant difference in estimated age by Johanson method. Actual age was a significant correlation in estimated age by Gustafson method and modified Johanson method. Modified Johanson method was more significant than Gustafson method.
2. In estimated age by Gustafson method, Johanson method and modified Johanson method, there was no significance with actual age by location and gender.
3. In estimated age by Gustafson method, Johanson method and modified Johanson method, there was significance with actual age by age group.
Finally, Gustafson method and Johanson method can be used in Korea. To make more accurate verification, however, it needs more specimen and postmortem teeth. Johanson equation proposed by himself has to be developed by further studies.
